If you are driving, the area is only a 5 hour drive from Chicago Midway Airport.  This information is also helpful if that is a consideration for flying in.  We have done it that way many times and it is a very pleasant drive, especially if you include M22 as you get closer. 

Chicago Midway can also be a better rate on a flight as well as a car rental, so check both on a travel site such as orbitz.com or travelocity.com

The closest airport to fly into is Traverse City, Michigan.  It is approximately a 45 minute drive from there to the lake area.

Other options for airports to fly into would be the following in order of closeness:  Grand Rapids, Michigan      Flint, Michigan      Detroit, Michigan
